To solve my problem of not having a proper carrying case for my Nendoroids when I bring them out for some fresh air, I decided create some DIY cases for my little cutties with the help of some recycled materials lying around the house
I spent a few days walking around the house trying to find things that my nendoroids could fit into. I actually tried fitting my Nendoroids into many different things like tea containers, tool boxes, handphone boxes, but they ended up being, either too small, too smelly, too big, too bulky. Then this morning I suddenly though of those containters where you keep badminton shuttles.
Unfortunately not everyone could fit inside. However I still decided to go along with it since I was desperately running out of solutions. (Rin looks extremely scary like that)
Even Shana has problems getting in ):
It is a perfect fit for Kyouka though. Short hair is awesome ^^
After some measurements to how tall the carrier has to be, the area to be chopped off is marked out and the chopping begins. The cardboard is pretty hard so it took quite a bit of effort to cut.
After some inspection by Kyouka-sama, it’s time to put some sponge padding in so that the Nendoroid riding inside won’t get smashed at the sides while being put in my bag.
I had lots of sponge lying around the house, I decided to use this black sponge for the head padding since it had indentations in which the contours of the head could fit. It’s so fitting that the girls can do yoga on it ^^
Next, was to make the sponge base. I used flat white foam for this. I cut this a little too thick actually. I had to remove a few layers later or else I wouldn’t be able to cap the container.
Perfect fit when the sponges come in!
After that, I was still pretty dis-satisfied because the container I just made could only fit Kyouka and Seraphy. Then, out of the blue I recalled seeing some poster boxes in the other room. Poster boxes are those huge, tough, rounded things you see at art shops where they keep their posters in.
This one had a larger diameter than the shuttle’s container. Rin and Shana can easily fit into it!
Kagami had some issues though >_<. But if you remove her locks, she could squeeze in.
As usual, the same process was carried out. The sawing was extremely tough though. The cardboard was extremely thick and hard. After that was the cutting of the sponge as usual. Shana decides to help out!
And at the end of the day, I have 2 carriers !
I guess I should decorate them!
Kagami still wants one which she could fit into!
Extremely easy and cheap DIY project. I am still open to more ideas on how to carry Nendoroids safely around. Shouldn’t there be Nendo carrying bags out there? Can’t believe someone hasn’t created one! Or maybe I haven’t looked hard enough. But DIY is awesome ^^
ADDENDA
Comrade Lightning Sabre pointed out a very good question asking me where do I keep the other parts. If I am bringing along bigger parts, I’ll just dump it in the cylinder with the Nendo, or else I have a separate container just for the little limbs and stuff
