Laksa

Laska

What is Laksa?

Laksa is a local delight that is basically noodles in a yummy spicy soup base!

Went down to the post office today to collect a loot package for my brother, and to post drawings to comrades who offered their adoption services.

Decided to grab an early lunch on the way back home.

Laska

So what exactly is Laksa.
Laksa, pronounced as “LARK-SAR”, is like noodle with soup. But instead of the traditional yellow noodles or the thick white ramen noodles that you usually see, Laksa is normally served with beehoon or “mee fen”. They are basically white noodles, but much much thinner.

The mess which you see above is the Laksa without the soup. It’s pretty messy but you can see an egg, beansprouts, crabsticks and taupok inside. The green thing everywhere is a spice that has a very fragrant smell and taste to it. I don’t know the name for that unfortunately. Any local/MY readers know?

Laska

Soup base poured in. I did not want to put all the soup in because I wanted to keep some to make more later ^^

Laska

Crab stick for Kagami!

This weird looking thing is called taupok. It’s like a sponge, soaks up the essence of the soup and when you take a bite off it, the soup flows out of it into your mouth. Extraordinary sensation indeed.

Laska

This is my most favourite part. Called hum in local dialect. It is actually sea cockles. Yummy yummy, but some people don’t like it because of it’s strong raw taste. I love it.

And of course, what’s lunch without anime?

Have you tried Laksa before? I used to avoid because I did not like spicy food, but later on I tried some and instantly fell in love with it. Based on my experience, different places have different ways and methods of preparing this dish, and because of that, it tastes differently at different places.

This store near my place at Yishun sells great laksa and I usually get it when I go to the nearby post office to collect/post things!

< ![CDATA[Ah man, laksa is the best when it is spicy! I remember tasting it when my aunt came over from Sarawak and cooked it for us. Instantly, I fell in love with it. Tastes much better than curry mee/mee-hoon though... ^^

That green thing? Hmm, I'm not really sure what that is. Never seen it before though... Maybe someone else here can enlighten us?

p/s: Will be waiting for your drawing to arrive! ^^]]>

    < ![CDATA[Hmm.. Seems like I missed this.

Asam laksa has those erm... "plasticky" noodles (I'm at a loss of words for that). Similar to "lou she fun". And it's soup is the type where they use to cook asam fish; Clear, sour and spicy.

And with this post, I realize that I suck at describing food. Lol!]]>
