This one is different from the one I saw at STGCC. How many of these does Bandai have?

Right smack at the middle of the atrium, level 1.

The area is guarded by massive Gundams, pretty impossible to miss it.

When?

From 2nd September to 13 September. But if you are going to wait until the 13 you’ll probably miss out on the awesome exclusives such as…

Psycho Gundam and…

Injection machines were only sold exclusively in Japan.

What?

So what’s happening besides seeing gunpla?

This area is for children to attend a Free Modeling Kit workshop. Great to get children into gundam collecting at a young age. Something which I definitely missed out, but would have probably blown a hole in my mum’s wallet at that time if I did.

You get a chance to win a trip for 2 to visit the Bandai Hobby Centre, and see real life-sized injection kits!
Don’t worry, you are not going on this awesome bike, though I wouldn’t mind owning it ^^.

You get to see the molds and spec sheets of gundam making. aka, behind the scenes works.

Now that we’ve covered Who, Where, What and When, here are some of my personal thoughts.

Honestly I’m not a gunpla person. The only Gundam series which I watched (and is a great fan of) is probably Gundam Wing. Gundam Wing, as some of you might know, was the anime which gave rise to the otaku spirit in me.

Nonetheless, to this day, I still find the epic works of some gunpla modelers as one of the most jaw-dropping works. You can see most of the impressive works at Figure.fm, especially after the Bandai X Dannychoo announcements a few days back, more entries of awesome works of gundam would be seen over there at Figure.fm.

It’s quite an eye opener to attend events such as these. The gundam universe certainly is one of of long history. There some of the model kits are pretty insane and the Sangokuen gundams look pretty cool since it involves so many gundams from all over the universe.

The thing I love about the whole fair was probably the wall of gundam posters with the main gundam displayed underneath. Would love to bring that Gundam Wing poster (and model) back home!

Beside the cool Bandai contest entries from around the region from the past years which were on display, my favourite displayed unit was probably the Kampfer and the Sazabi. I love both their design and would like to make one one day, when I have the funds and the skill of course!

So is it an event worth going even if you don’t have a slight interest in Gundam?
Gunpla are truly works of art when constructed by someone who knows what’s he doing. So think of it as walking through a museum of artworks, you never know, you might just enjoy it.

Or course, there are the gundam girls. Lovely lady on the left is a maid in the Moe Moe Kyun Cafe for this year’s AFA btw!
