A new base

My base melted during Narika’s photoshoot because I placed it on a terribly hot light. As a result her base was skewed and could not be placed flat in the display cabinet. As a result I had to figure out how to fix my base problem.

Base

The melted base is pretty terrible and really an eye sore. I really don’t like white square bases. A square base for such a dynamic figure really doesn’t give it much justice.

Base

I spent the whole afternoon figuring how to make another stand but could not figure out how to make a proper connector. Finally gave up and decided to pry out the connector.

Base

The connector could not be pried out so I opted for a more direct solution.

Base

Connector was out at last.

Base

I originally intended to use this reflective cheese grater looking base for the replacement but there were quite a number of issues with connection the sawed off foot connector to it that I had to scrape the idea. Would really loved to have used this reflective base for Narika.

Decided to use a transparent 2 layered plastic holder as the new base. Cut up the beautiful box to give the stand some color.

Base

With the help of comrade Superglue I manage to file the sawed connector flat and glued it to the base of the transparent holder. I know some people will have doubts of the strength of my superglue, but my Shellys superglue is very very very powerful. Glad that my first Ojou-sama came with a broken twintail which made me hop down to the Fix-it shop to purchase the superglue. Not every accident is bad!

This was the reason why I cut up the beautiful box. I always wanted to have little cards which stated the name of the figure when I put them in my cabinet. Guess Narika is the first! ^^

Base

If you did not know how the original base looked like, will you be able to tell the difference?

Base

Might want to install a mini light bulb underneath the base since it’s transparent. And now that I look through the pictures, The new Narika looks like a trophy!

Pretty happy how this problem was solved! Narika is so darn pretty ^^

  1. How tall is she now?

    Cute figure, heh.

  2. Huh, I reckon it’ll look pretty sweet with a lightbulb installed!

  3. LEDs will be a nice option! the moment you on the computer, she’ll light up!

  4. Nice.

But in my opinion the base is too big.
I would cut it or melt it that only one side.

  5. You could place a mirror inside of your new “stand”, to create that reflective effect.

  6. nice fix, that white base doesn’t look very good anyways.

the same with most of my figure collection, i almost always hate the base, i would love to buy a wooden base for them, but i just don’t know how to recreate the nubs/connecters for the figures :(

does anybody know a tutorial on how to attach figures to wooden bases, kinda like the ones used for garage kits?

  7. btw, the header image for this article is gorgeous, care to share the post processing technique/effect you used on it?

  8. woot, nice base man. You’re so creative. Lol. I bet I couldn’t have thought of that at all >_>.

  9. I honestly think this base PAWNED the previous one. Thank goodness it was melted.

  10. If you didn’t say superglue, I would’ve thought that you used a customized connector to place that firmly. I know superglue is strong but I wouldn’t imagine it to be THAT strong!

  11. this is inspiring….you have a great mind! @_0…

  12. Nice custom. Next time you may want to be extra careful. Thank goodness it is the base and not the figure.

  13. Ouch. Although you made a new base that you love, i still feel “ouch” for you. >0<

  14. Suggestion: Make a “Modification” tag on your journal.

I have various modding friends who would love these entries, and don’t care too much for the normal figure-posts.

Besides, these are more exciting, to me :)

  15. Nice job! Good usage of the box too. I’ve been wondering if saving all these figure boxes is such a good idea. I need to find some good super glue here, the stuff I have doesn’t work well with figures.

  16. Really nice, some of my figures really do need a better base, some have too big a base for their own good, and some others just look too terrible. Unfortunately I was never (and am not ever going to be) good with my hands. :\

  17. Sweet man! That super glue is really freakin’ powerful. I need to get me some of that.

As an artist, I’d say that your base would look better without the naff paper logo.

  18. that’s a nice quick fix! ^^

lights would be great! I think a custom print out for cards would be better (but I know u’re lazy =P)
