Retirement

Thank you all for supporting me ever since the first picture was published but just as beautiful flowers die, some good things must come to an end. As such, I’ll be taking the backseat from now on and I hope that the person taking over the reins of producing the pictures does a good job.

F my 1.8s

Taking over the job of the majority picture taking will be a Nikkor 50mm f1.8 prime lens. I made a decision to acquire it this morning after reading a lots of reviews about it. Everyone seemed to have great comments about it, the only problem was that the Auto-Focus was generally not very compatible with my D40.

F my 1.8s

But as if I’m going to let the notion of manual focus stop me. I was pretty determined to get it and master manual focusing, which wasn’t much effort actually. I’ve been using manual focus for most of the scaled figures shots so I had quite an experience with it. I must say, MF is really a blast to use. It’s feels really flexible and fun.

F my 1.8s

The prime lens opens a new possibility of photography and I’m just dying to explore the many many techniques and possibilities with this little devil. Outdoor photoshoots will be so exciting and fun.

F my 1.8s

So what happens to my old lens which has served me SO WELL? I can’t describe how awesome this 18-55mm standard lens kit which came with my D40 is. While the name “Standard Lens Kit” sounds pretty lackluster, it’s a very versatile lens. It’s just like a jack of all trades and because of it’s limitations, you are forced to work for your shots. I jsut love it.

F my 1.8s

Truth be told, slinging the camera, carrying a figure and climbing everywhere to get the shot I want isn’t all smooth sailing. I’ve dropped my camera countless of times, and dropped figures even more times that it would cause a hardcore collector to go into cardiac arrest. But my aim of photography is to bring them figure to life and a boxed up figure is far from getting a life.

F my 1.8s

A testament to what my 18-55mm has gone through can easily be seen by the lens cap.

Hope to bring more shots for you guys with this awesome lens in the near future.

As of writing, Kodomut currently uses a D40 with a 50mm f1.8 Prime and a 18-55 AF-S Standard lens kit for his pictures. So don’t keep asking.

Photo tools are expensiver than any figure or nendoroid. So you managed to save a lot for a new lens ^^ Photography world is so expensive sometimes (Im still wanting to buy a tripod 4×4 like the cars).
We want new photos with the new lens!

Anyway, good to know you’ve got a 50mm f1.8, I’ve got the Canon equivalent to it and its a lovely lens! Takes a bit of getting used to if you’re moving from a 18-55, but I reckon the efforts worth it >=D

  22. kluxorious
    kluxorious09-15-2009

I was just about to get myself the 50mm lense. The only reason I want it is because it is great for bokeh effect, as proven in your pixors.

the standard lense kit is awesome. I still prefer my Nikon D40 over my Canon 50D. Probably because of the massive weight difference.

Hey Kodomut- do you enhance your pictures in any way? Or are they straight from the camera? You’re pictures are absolutely stunning, and I want to know whether thats the default value you get from the camera, or you use a photo editing software of some type? Cause if you don’t, the D40 is really amazing! :P

Can’t wait to see your even awesome-er shots :D

    • kodomut
      kodomut09-16-2009

I sharpen some of my shots since I resize them. I also increase the color vibrancy most of the time. Occasionally I add vignetting, lomography, sepia effects.

You have to tell me what you find “absolutely stunning” or direct me to specific shots to tell you what I do or not do lol.

But the D40 is not really amazing. It’s truly amazing!
