Greenery looks always greener after the rain for some reason. Today, like most days during this week there was a brief downpour during the afternoon, clearing the haze and the hot weather during the week. I was eating my lunch when I thought that rain would make interesting photos.
Unfortunately by the time I got back home and packed everything, the rain already stopped. Yes, I wanted to take some shots in the rain. Never tried doing shots in the rain, probably would be fun, have to experience it one day.
Anyway, took a walk around the neighbourhood since I packed everything, even though I did not get the setting I wanted. Ended up walking in the nearby Yishun park and the after the rain scenery was really nice. Lots of stuff fallen on the ground – stuff which I have no idea what they are.
Seriously, what is this black thing?
Brown leaves, looking great with with Kureha as usual. There was a ridiculous amount of brown leaves on the ground after the rain. For some reason I was worried that I might leave Kureha behind because she was pretty well camouflaged.
Spot the jogger in the background.
My most favourite shot of the day. I would have preferred the leaves and grass to be a little more wet. This was the only shot that really felt like it was after the rain. Never really took a top-down angle before in the past. Kind of like it ^^
A-Bery-Big-Bleaf. Papaya plant was it?
This whole shot was entirely done on my 50mm f1.8 prime. It’s quite a fun lens to use, but I’ve yet to get used to it in the outdoors. I usually prone and lie on the floor, which makes me squint into the viewfinder, and manual focusing becomes a challenge.
I don’t think primes where made with the intention to take such shots, but I really like how the prime makes you move around your subject and work with angles and the lighting. Spot the Rin btw.
I have no idea why there’s a tap in the middle of no where in the park.
The fun thing about walking around instead of cycling is that I spend more time covering a certain area and find more interesting things. This is one of the best things about shooting outdoors, as compared to indoors, there are a ton of ways and possibilities to compose your shot. To me, indoors is too predictable and boring. Though I would like to point out that I have a tap indoors too. ^^
On the walk home, I saw some really cute kitties. Cats are the love. Between figures and cats I’ll choose shooting cats. I used to own a few kitties, but I was a bad owner so none of the stories ended with “happily ever after”.
This cat was adorable. She’s the same one on the header pic with Rin. I also realised the header pic doesn’t appear on RSS which sucks. Need to find a way to work around it. Anyway, preempting questions like “Didn’t the kitty try to chew Rin because she looks like a mouse?” Yes, the cat swiped Rin’s head and attempted to chew her twin tails.
Cat number 2 is a lovely one. The same one which I took a shot of Drossel patting her. Forgot to include that shot in the weekly update of “A Week in the Life of Figures” this week. Probably do so if I remember next week.
Love her side profile. I tend to like the side profiles of a lot of things – especially cats and figures.
Skinny and scrawny cat #3. She was very wary of me, kept her distance and did not allow me to go near her, unlike the previous 2. I still have no idea why some strays are so afrain of humans and some so friendly. Bad experiences maybe?
And this concludes this post. All shot using my 50mm prime. Getting used to the Manual Focusing, though some pictures were a little off still. Looking to upgrade my 18-55mm to something stronger and have my sights set on a particular Tamron. Looks like the D90 shall wait a little while. Loving this prime lens and it’s creamy bokeh and gorgeous razor sharpness.

Nice capture on the strays cats.
Branching into animal photography? The first shot of cat #3 looks really professional!
I was lucky with her, focusing correctly right at the moment she turned. I love animals btw!
Yeah taking pictures of animals can be tricky; unfortunately they don’t hold their poses for extended periods of time the way Nendos/Figmas do!
the black thingy… i dunno what they called it in English but that is ‘buah pokok sena’ in Malay or in layman term: the fruit of Sena tree. LOL that sounds retarded.
and that is NOT a papaya leaves *facepalm*
ps: your fav shot is my fav shot too ^_^
As stated before, my botany skills are limited to the veg that can be served on the dinner tables.
Those photos are lovely,. And those cats! So very lovely!!
When I saw the title on MFC I thought it would be in regards to the pretty song on the end of Souja no Kemono lol
The cat were being stalked by you? XDDD
Yeah, I am a kitty stalker because it’s not illegal as compared to stalking humans.
Lol, the 2nd cat photo looks like a geass sign on its face. XD
Indeed it does! Why is probably why I cannot help but be attracted sub-consciously to her.
Nice pictures, I love the way everything feels so fresh after a nice rain. Most stray cats that I’ve seen are afraid of people, you get lucky when they actually come close, you did good capturing them on cam ^^
I would say the strays here are 50:50 afraid and not-afraid of people. Event he not-afraid are wary of people and you have to approach them really slowly.
Either way, afraid or not-afraid, they are lovely.
Wow, the header photo with Rin and the cat. That seems like a hard moment to capture, unless the cat didn’t really move around much.
I was indeed lucky to have caught that.
Those neko are so cool, esp the first one. So calm with Rin in front of her/him. I tried to take photos of my neko and girls too, but failed terribly. T.T
FYI, i have 5 neko-chan at home. =P
Heh, your little kitties are unfriendly to your girls? Maybe try when they are sleeping? ^^
They are freaking afraid of my girls. = = Timid desu.
I tried when they are sleeping, but you know cats are very sensitive. So FAILED.
love the header photo!
for stray cats they look very well kept, especially compared to the ones around here o.O
We have dedicated residents feeding them most of the time so they are pretty lucky!
lovely photo shoot, I like how she is looking out from the tree
God I love the pic of the cat staring at Rin XD
That cat #1 really looks like my cat w/ the same color too. Love that photo w/ rin and the tap.
Such gorgeous cats!! ^^ Lovely photos
Yay Kitties!
How did you make the B&W with Red “thing” shot?
Use the De-saturate tool on everywhere except the red-thing-what-ever-you-call it.
I do desaturation on a duplicate layer then erase. Faster for smaller objects imo.
Papaya leaves are supposed to be bigger than that^^
Maybe if you find one, you can take it home and use it as a Nendo boat XD
Oh, yes, back then I used to have a stray black cat, but because of the last move, I can’t bring that guy along.
And now in here, there’s a black cat with yelowish green eyes~
Do you like the black ones?
