Singapore Quarry

Were we went was called Singapore Quarry. It was right behind the place where my mum used to stay during her younger years. Located at Bukit Timah. She moved out of the place during the mid 1980s when the government relocated the residents.

Singapore Quarry

Dad parked his car near the train tracks. This tracks does not belong to the MRT tracks. It’s actually the Singapore-Johor tracks. It’s actually still in use and I was pretty apprehensive on taking pictures near it since there have been cases of people getting run over my the trains last month.

Singapore Quarry

Not wanting to take so much risks,  I quickly wiped out the figure which would be the quickest to pose and quickly took some shots. I was really not focusing when I was taking the shots since I was looking back and front for any signs of an incoming train.

Singapore Quarry

This was the most I would risk. A shot in the middle of the tracks. Would have preferred to go low but I’m not ready to get run over by a train anytime soon. Drossel is such a brave ojou-sama though!

Singapore Quarry

As you can see from the first picture, the place which these pictures were taken was near a bridge. The granite ledges were really beautiful. I did not get any good shots of it but the moss which was growing on it gave it a very nice look.

Singapore Quarry

The sides of the tracks would have made nice shots with the wooden and rocky texture and look but my family members decided to leave the area since I was the only one doing something instead of standing around ^^

Singapore Quarry

This is an old school circuit thing which are hung on the old types of lamp posts. I’m sure Drossel is looking for some power upgrades.

Singapore Quarry

After the train tracks area, my family decide to trek up the slope towards Singapore Quarry. Many greenery and bugs along the way. I enjoy taking insects and small stuff for some reason. I’m sure it’s pretty evident that I don’t favour landscape photography!

Singapore Quarry

I would have preferred to whip out some nendoroids and figmas to pose with the bugs, but it would have probably scared them buggies away.

Singapore Quarry

I love just trekking around nature and finding interesting stuff to snap. One tip is to walk slow because the faster you walk, the less you see. My family was walking a little too quick for my liking but I guess it was alright since it was quickly turning dark and we have yet to reach the quarry site.

Singapore Quarry

Not being afraid to get dirty and bitten by ants and mosquitoes are a requisite too. You’ll inevitably be bitten by some creature or bug when you are so close to nature. Best to get used to it and not let it bother you.

Singapore Quarry

Credits to my 50mm prime for the hard work.

Singapore Quarry

Managed to get Kagami out during one of the breaks which my family took at some abandoned bridge. Although Rin looks great with flowers as mentioned before, I think Kagami looks great with white flowers too.

Singapore Quarry

Sister managed to bring along her Rin. She’s quite lovely. Can can totally balance easily on her own two feet on even ground.

Singapore Quarry

My mum calls these smelly flowers. Did not want to confirm that fact. They look small and lovely though.

Singapore Quarry

Many folks walking their dogs.

Singapore Quarry

That’s mum and brother. They managed to find the location where the old house once stood after some exploring, confirmed by finding the concrete slab pavement which was the front of the house. Mum loved her old house very much as she love gardening and she was saying “Where is my tall rambutan tree?” the whole time. Apparently she had a rambutan tree which was pretty tall in the garden back then.

Singapore Quarry

We managed to reach the quarry after quite some time. It was already sunset by the time we reached. My prime took ridiculous pictures of the place so I have no pictures to show. All I can say is that the quarry is flooded with underground water and there are stuff growing all over. The tall cliffs are also quite magnificent and my mum was reminiscing how she and her siblings used to climb to the peak to bathe and play when she was young. Totally different childhood.

Singapore Quarry

After that we headed to Beauty World, which is supposed to be some shopping centre back in the 80s to have mutton soup.

Singapore Quarry

Apparently my mum and dad used to patronise this yummilicious mutton soup store ever since their courtship days.

Singapore Quarry

The mutton meal was pretty awesome and I would definitely recommend it to my friends next time.

It was a great outing. I never went for a photoshoot with my family members before. I think it was the first time they saw me in what I do when I take pictures in the outdoors. I really appreciate my family, especially my parents for the support it letting me do what I love and having the patience to put up with it ^^. I’m quite sure that to them I spend a lot of time trying to take the shots I want and it’s patience that lets them put up with it. I would definitely want to go back here next time since we did not explore the place as much as I wanted!

  1. Really great picture ! I love Miku’s photography ^^

  2. awesome pics!

    that mutton soup looks really good, I usually eat the one at Bedok haven’t really tried other places though ^^;

  3. Nice pictures!!

My parents would never go trekking with me.. Most would be by myself :3

    I don’t eat mutton a lot. Or maybe I just don’t know if I’m eating mutton. S:

  4. Awesome pics!! Dang it. I’ve to get my ass out and take some outdoor pictures using the Prime lens I have as well. =P Anyway, I’m totally amused that they will be calling the MRT station in that area “Beauty World”. My friend, who stays in the area was complaining that she would find it embarrassing telling people to alight at “Beauty World” MRT station to get to her house. =DDD

  5. Goddamit, now I’m hungry >_<

But lovely shots as always, will we be seeing more of Rin? =P

  6. I really like your insects shots
    Your sister also collecting nendoroids?

  7. Great shots~ I love all the bug photography too!
I find it pretty amazing that your parents don’t mind your hobby (I may have said this on a post before too? I can’t remember ). Mine are always busy trying to get me to ‘grow up’, that they don’t see the beauty of figures! I’d love to have parents that are more understanding. ~

I think my favorite shot has to be the third one down, of Drossel walking along the railroad tracks with her back to the camera. It’s very well done.

  8. Love the photo of Rin ^^
and everything looks to fresh and green!

  9. That was quite brave of you to even whip out Ojou-sama and take photos of her on those train tracks!

I also think those “smelly flowers” look cute. I wonder if they’re really smelly.

  10. Aiyah .. i was just going to suggest that we go shoot train tracks for our Nendo’s Travelogue this weekend.

  11. Figma Drossel is very photogenic;) I particularly like the photo of Miku (and that of the dragonfly :D ).

Your mom had to be sad not to see his old house?

You’re lucky to have parents that let you develop in your passion.

  12. rin is lovely~ you shud get miku, len n kaito as well~ ^ ^

  13. Dang, i still hate the rambutan seed woody things that get stuck on the flesh! Apparently, my parents houses are still there in the form of apartments =/. From the looks of the dog picture, i suppose you don’t favor dogs too! ^^;

  14. hua it is so dangerous for u to take the photo on the track. pls be careful, do not wish any bad thing to happen on you ><. btw, the mutton meal look delicous. would like to check it out when i have the chance ^^

  15. I’m constantly surprised by how many photos you get of wildlife (aka insects =D) when you go out. I rarely see a single grasshopper here.

  16. wow, your parents must’ve been enjoying a really good time while remembering the old days :D
and that’s some pretty dangerous move with you and drossel in the middle of the track :)

    love your photos!
