So the story starts off like this:
I was going for a jog when I saw this bag of destroyed concrete along my route. I assume that this are the remnants of some guy who did some renovations to his toilet or something like that, so don’t label me as a pilferer!
I had some rough plans for a wooden sword stand made from some imaginary material before this, but looking at the smashed bits of concrete gave me a better idea on how to display my extra Saber sword.
I helped myself with some pieces of concrete, choosing these 2 in the end. As you can see, they are not very big either.
By now you probably can figure out how this is going to end.
Mark out the spot to drill.
As much as I would like to provide some pictures of my Gurren Lagann drilling action, I did not take any pictures because drilling concrete bits like this isn’t a very easy task. Took ages to drill to my desired depth.

After some tough drilling exercise, the sword sits nicely in the hole.
Bam, peeerfect!
Minus some feathers on the base and this is how my Saber is displayed.
So for those who have their Saber Lilies, what did you do with the extra sword? If you are not going to do anything to it, might I suggest donating them to my Drossel?
Anyway this pictures were pretty fun to shoot. Took out my extra lighting lamps which were collecting dust at some corner of my room. It’s been a long time since I did a proper shoot with more than one point of lighting. Kills the eyes though ):

Very nice.
What will you tackle next? Steel?
Oct 10, 2009 @ 01:07:20
Tougher than steel.
A girl’s cold heart.
Oct 10, 2009 @ 02:23:09
Gonna tackle a tsundere?
Oct 10, 2009 @ 02:34:35
O_O Loli Tsun?
Oct 10, 2009 @ 12:23:59
I so agree with u bro. a girl’s heart is tougher than diamond and so cold even Arthas won’t dare to touch.
Oct 10, 2009 @ 01:09:10
Heh nice. Looks better than just lying around in a box.
Btw that’s Caliburn not Excalibur. ^_^
Oct 10, 2009 @ 01:14:03
So I assume the fatty is Excalibur. What is Caliburn anyway?
Oct 10, 2009 @ 01:49:18
In the real tale it’s the same sword. But Japnese like to mess with European tales^^
“According to legend, Caliburn was broken during a battle in which King Arthur strayed from the principles of chivalry.
Although similar to Excalibur in appearance, Caliburn was reduced to a simple symbol of the king’s authority. As an ornament, it is less effective than Excalibur in actual combat, although it remains extremely powerful. “
Oct 10, 2009 @ 03:01:18
In actuality Caliburn is the Sword in the Stone that Arthur (in this case, Arturia) pulls out to become King of England. Excalibur is the sword presented to him by the Lady of the Lake after Caliburn is broken in battle.
Oct 10, 2009 @ 04:53:15
The text above is like it is described in FSN. And actually it depends on the version of the legen as far as I know. Well, who cares?^^
Oct 10, 2009 @ 07:17:48
I guess you’re right ^^; I was basing mine off the actual Arthurian legend (as remembered from that episode of Stargate SG-1 xD)
Oct 10, 2009 @ 01:58:33
so did u wash it 1st before plugging in the sword ?
since if its really from toilet….. >_<
later got kazua residue.
Oct 10, 2009 @ 02:10:06
NO FEAR. The sword is powerful.
Oct 10, 2009 @ 07:03:53
Actually, there is fear that the concrete may scratch the paint off the sword. :\
Oct 10, 2009 @ 07:18:41
He could always fill the drilled hole with a little cotton before inserting the sword, then trim off the excess =)
Oct 10, 2009 @ 08:19:31
The power of filing.
Oct 10, 2009 @ 02:24:06
Very nice use of torn out concrete!
Oct 10, 2009 @ 02:26:48
Congratulation for this stand ! It’s really nice !
Oct 10, 2009 @ 02:35:14
Sword in a rock… Perfect! ^^;
Oct 10, 2009 @ 04:13:43
It looks beautiful. I love how you’re using the feathers, cotton and roses to make everything look soft and misty and elegant. I can’t stop staring!
Also, do you always go running with your camera? XD I’ve thought about doing it but I find it obnoxious to have something to carry aside from my iPod.
Oct 10, 2009 @ 08:20:05
LOL no, I went back to get it after my run.
Oct 10, 2009 @ 04:30:05
Currently I have Excalibur sheathed inside of Avalon. But I like what you have done, adds a lot more depth to Saber’s character because it is the sword she pulled from the stone.
My plan was to use painted Styrofoam pieces to create a “stone” for Caliburn. Cool to see someone else do something similar. Love how it looks =D
Oct 10, 2009 @ 08:30:05
While drilling halfway, I actually wanted to use Styrofoam in the end because concrete was just the most stubborn material ever. But then I figured I was just to lazy to smash styrofoam up and give it a coat of paint.
Oct 10, 2009 @ 11:52:48
I am quite lazy at times =3
Oct 10, 2009 @ 04:57:09
Very clever idea! The final display is amazing, very dramatic and beautiful.
Oct 10, 2009 @ 05:07:44
Im agree with Kit. The woog stand is pending then. ^^
Oct 10, 2009 @ 08:31:37
I still might want to do a wooden stand though, who knows, might turn out better ^^
Oct 10, 2009 @ 05:14:53
such a great idea, now will Saber pull the sword from the stone or will kinig arthur beat her too it!
Oct 10, 2009 @ 05:28:56
Saber is King Arthur..or Arthuria…in the Fate / Stay Night universe
Oct 10, 2009 @ 08:27:26
Saber is queen in Kodomut universe.
Oct 10, 2009 @ 07:00:29
Wow~ very nice!
Oct 10, 2009 @ 07:07:12
I was actually going to just lay my extra sword at her feet, but the sword in the stone is a pretty cool idea. Drilling concrete is tough, especially when it’s such a tiny piece. Drill too hard/fast and the thing just goes flying off some trajectory. Did you use a vice to clamp it down?
Oct 10, 2009 @ 08:22:54
My vice clamp could only clamp it in a certain weird angle. Would have drilled it at that angle but not at the place where my marker left a certain black mark on it.
I wasn’t using the conventional drill, it’s those mounted ones where you just have to direct it downwards. So in the end it was some dangerous hand action!
Oct 10, 2009 @ 07:13:18
Gorgeous

Oct 10, 2009 @ 08:25:17
Woah, thanks again Danny!
Wanted to figure.fm this but there were just too many Saber posts ^^
Oct 10, 2009 @ 08:13:12
(Hi, long time reader, first time commenter ^^)
That’s a pretty ingenious idea, and it works beautifully well.
Makes me want Saber Lily even more now ^^; But I doubt I’ll have the funds. She’d destroy my wallet. XD
Oct 10, 2009 @ 08:24:18
Hihi, yup, the sword is so powerful that it destroys wallets.
Oct 10, 2009 @ 09:48:44
I was thinking of using Drossel to help display her. Unfortunately, my Drossel is still broken. Dx
Oct 10, 2009 @ 09:53:15
How badly is your drossel broken?
Oct 10, 2009 @ 10:56:16
Just the twintail.
Oct 10, 2009 @ 11:14:48
I’m assuming the ‘her’ you are referring to is the sword. Doing that causes Drossel to be a static display won’t it? Unless you enjoy putting it up and down.
Oct 10, 2009 @ 11:55:01
Oops, missed a word. With* her (Saber).
But still, yeah it’ll cause Drossel to be a static display. So I’ll probably wait until I get my hands on another Drossel, until then I’ll make do with something else when it comes to mind =P
Oct 10, 2009 @ 09:52:35
Creative but rock and feather don’t really mix…
Oct 10, 2009 @ 11:12:21
Just as Durian and ice cream.
Oct 10, 2009 @ 11:11:03
nice… slowly stepping into making dioramas… =P
Oct 10, 2009 @ 11:15:55
Pretty fun.
Could make a Mirim one for you if you want. Just need to go back a steal the chains and such (:
Oct 10, 2009 @ 11:53:35
That’s a wonderful stand! I love it.
Oct 10, 2009 @ 12:16:04
I just put the extra sword on the base. Meh.
Great job on the concrete stand for the sword though. ^^;
Oct 10, 2009 @ 12:48:36
i feel like doing the same as well. what type of drilling equipment did u use? i guess a hand held battery operated one won’t be strong enough.
for the ideal rock, i think those found at railway tracks looks very nice for this purpose. (‘~’)
Oct 10, 2009 @ 16:17:00
A workshop drill, like this http://www.marknorth.net/images/workshop/drill.jpg
Oct 11, 2009 @ 09:50:57
and where did u find this workshop? (‘~’)
Oct 10, 2009 @ 15:01:44
Now Saber Lily IS complete. ^^d
Oct 10, 2009 @ 16:24:49
This is epic. As epic as Saber!
I’m kinda wondering though, won’t the paint from Caliburn get scratched off because of the concrete? o.o;
Oct 10, 2009 @ 17:15:53
I filed the hole smooth.
Oct 10, 2009 @ 16:57:04
I dont know what to do with it…. Guess i’ll get a figma to play with the sword or sumthin *shrugs*
Oct 11, 2009 @ 07:59:19
Donate it to me :3
Oct 11, 2009 @ 15:03:10
Whats in for me? lol
Oct 10, 2009 @ 17:12:29
very creative ^^
needs some grass!
Oct 11, 2009 @ 08:00:34
And a lake too.
Oct 10, 2009 @ 19:59:31
Wow thats really a nice diorama set up for saber ^^. Man gonna try that out one day as a display for my weapons! must have taken quite a fair bit of time to drill actual concrete!
Oct 11, 2009 @ 08:00:06
Indeed, didn’t expect concrete to be so tough. Pretty assuring though, to know that my toilet is made of concrete.
Oct 11, 2009 @ 00:08:15
nice custom base!
the top picture is very nice!!
Oct 11, 2009 @ 00:49:50
That opening image is just awesome, you’ve made an epic figure look even more epic *-*
You would think there would be a place in the base for an extra sword though, so that everything could be on display.
Oct 11, 2009 @ 02:43:08
Nice custom base, love Saber with wings
Oct 11, 2009 @ 03:48:08
That’s beautiful!
Jeez, you always have great ideas, and you pull them off fantastically.
*admires*
Oct 11, 2009 @ 08:01:13
Admires Saber too!
Oct 11, 2009 @ 04:44:54
u always so creative!! admires too…
Oct 11, 2009 @ 08:01:29
Yes, Saber loves to be admired.
Oct 11, 2009 @ 13:49:42
Nice idea! Was thinking of putting Caliburn in a rock as well since the sword was initially stuck in a rock.
Oct 13, 2009 @ 15:40:43
OMG, that’s amazing and a brilliant idea for a base. Love the extra flowers as well. This is an amazing display of Saber Lily.
Oct 14, 2009 @ 00:18:47
One man’s junk is another man’s treasure. A excellent way to display Excalibur. Btw, I have never seen Saber in that awesome gear!
Oct 21, 2009 @ 22:33:05
I personally put the sword in her hand, with the other one sheathed.
