Just came back from the post office to collect my package of camera assortments since I missed the delivery a few days back. Went to buy a few stuff to play around with. First off, I bought a new wireless remote since I gave my previous one away to a bud of mine.
I actually have a bigger wired remote, but the wired remote is much bigger and wires generally don’t go well with me. This smaller one works with both my D90 and D40, but it works on IR so you can’t release the shutter if you are behind the camera; Which is where the wired one comes in.
Bought a set of 3 Macro filters too, +2, +1 and a +4. They work pretty well for pseudo macro shots, this shot and the top one with the remote was taken with and +4. This is the way to go for poor people.
The best part is the filters come in a pouch which has a slot for each of the filter.
Bought normal cheap filters to replace my broken one. Think this one broke when my camera smashed against some rock while climbing somewhere. No point investing on an expensive HOYA filter for me since I am very damage prone.
Poor filter.
The RAYDAWN filter for my other lens which came when I bought my D40 is much sturdier. It has withstood drops, smashes and all other things nature and man can throw at it and it as only a few scratches and a huge dent at the rim.
Last thing that came in my package is a reversal ring. Read briefly about it and since it doesn’t cost much, I decided to buy one.
For the uninitiated like me before I read about it, A reversal ring basically mounts your lens backwards like the picture above. As such, it becomes a pseudo macro lens which you can go really close with and take shots that show how much dust is collected on your figure.
Pretty fun to work with but the dust on my sensor + dust on Hachune becomes so obvious that it looks pretty scary!
However she does look really huge here, no crop on the picture too!
The fun part of the reversal ring is that you can go so near.
The not so fun part, aside from the obvious dust specs, is that the shutter has got to be open much more longer, so tripod is absolutely necessary.
Details are so clear even on my D40 that I can see the words on GIZMO’s eyegear. Unfortunately being able and being able to decipher is entirely different.

This has just become a guide for me on reasons why I should upgrade.
Thanks for the update!
Wonder if i can have a go with the Macro filters next time!
whuts all this alien stuff X_X
Erdoberfläche. lol
And somehow I can’t remove my ZV Filter from my Lens. And frightent to break my lens too.
BTW:
Do you have now two Nikons?
One the D90 and D40?
OK. I get it off.
Tempting to get a Macro filter and reversal ring too… Argh… Too many purchases!
Sounds fun! I wonder if they would with with my Pancake lens. =D
Does your lens have an aperture ring? I don’t see one. Curious how you control the aperture on your lens when it’s reversed?
I only bought a reverse coupling ring for my f/1.8 50mm because it has an aperture ring. My 18-70mm wouldn’t be able to do anything other than f/3.5 if I reversed it. Though the 18-70mm would at least be able to focus, unlike my 50mm which can’t be focused at all.
Winter drossel ftw!
