I was invited to the STGCC (Singapore Toys, Games and Comics Convention) this morning and had the chance to sit in into a group discussion with cosplay queen Kipi-san.
今日はSTGCC(シンガポールのトイ、ゲーム、コミックコン)へ参加して、コスプレ女王Kipiと一緒に話す機会があった。
STGCC is in it’s 3rd year running and it had grown much from it’s humble beginnings a couple of years back. I still feel that the Eastern pop culture emphasis still overcasts their Western counterparts, but this year the west has it’s fair share of special guest coming in. And it’s probably alright too since we have AFA11 coming down in a few months time (: (and which I am actually so terribly excited about ^^)
So the media preview is basically a broadcast of the exclusives and a run down of the guests and Kipi happened to be amongst them. Lots of bloggers from the east and west bloggersphere came down to cover the events too. Am always trying to check out other people’s camera gear ^^;
今回のメディアプレビューはイベントとゲストの情報発表です。ゲストの中にKipiさんがいらっしゃいました。ブロガーたちも大勢いた、東部からも西部からも。わたしはいつもみんながどんなカメラを持ってるか見ています^^;
People who know me personally would know that besides plastic figures, I don’t really photograph anything living, with the exception of the occasional cliché nendoroids with flowers or happy children running around during one of the library events I volunteer with. The closest I am to the costly industry is attend cosfest, eoy and soy for a few minutes, and getting to know the awesome photographers of cosplaying, nutcase23, shazz, ex14 and hexlord (who has abandoned me and escaped back to his home country)
Reiko, the translator for Kipi for the group interviews. She did a great job!
Kipi
The group discussion was more of a chance to listen to someone who has years of experience of cosplaying in Japan under her belt. One for tidbits that she shared is that her journey of cosplaying stemmed from her love of sewing and she picks up posing (for photoshoots) from her love of dancing. Likewise I could say my love for nendoroids was catalyzed by my interest in photography. So hearing her share that reaffirmed my belief that it’s good to have multiple interest in various fields because you never know how much they would benefit each other!
Anyway you can catch Kipi at STGCC, where she will be cosplaying Shana (shakugan no shana) and MEIKO (VOCALOID) on Saturday (20th) and Akemi Homura (Makoda) on Sunday!
There were some other stuff on display in the small conference room and there were a lot of nendoroid sized toys they actually caught my eye!
Hot Toys ironman, so coolsomeeee

Did kipi speak mandarin during your group discussion?
I saw one of her videos in youtube where she spoke mandarin, she’s got a good accent.
Expected, she had entered a uni in china.
Yes she did, pretty good infact!
